Christ’s Victory in Death and Resurrection

What does it mean that Jesus “descended into hell”? In this lesson, we look at Sheol in the Old Testament (Luke 16:19–31), how Christ entered death not in defeat but as the Conqueror who holds “the keys of Hades and of Death” (Revelation 1:18), and how He “led captivity captive” (Ephesians 4:8–10). We explore how His once-for-all sacrifice (Hebrews 10:10–12) fulfilled the temporary system of sacrifices and how His resurrection made Him “the first fruits” of those who will rise (1 Corinthians 15:20–22). This study points us to Jesus as the only way to eternal life (John 14:6) and our assurance of future resurrection.
