The Cost of Humility

Aug 12, 2026    Jamey Parker

What does biblical humility really look like when life gets difficult? In this Wednesday Bible study, we look at the example of Christ and discover that humility is far more than simply being nice, agreeable, or quiet.

From Luke 9:23 and Philippians 2:1–11 to Ephesians 5:25 and James 1:19, this message challenges us to consider the daily cost of following Christ. Biblical humility means rejecting self-rule, placing ourselves under Christ’s authority, looking out for the interests of others, and responding to pressure in a way that reflects Him.

Humility will cost us something—our preferences, our desire for recognition, our comfort, and sometimes our right to speak first. But those choices can become a reflection of Christ in our homes, our church, our relationships, and our everyday lives.

Take some time to listen and consider: What am I willing to surrender so that my life more clearly reflects Christ?
