Living as God's People in a Godless World
In 1 Peter 2, we are reminded of who we are in Christ and how we are called to live in a world that often does not recognize Him. Once, we were outsiders, far from God and without hope. Through Jesus, we have been brought near, received mercy, and given a new identity. Like a pauper adopted by a king, we should never forget the grace that has changed our lives.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to live as strangers and pilgrims here. That's because our true home is not in this world, so we are encouraged to live with integrity, resisting the pull of our old ways and letting our actions speak for our faith. Even when we are misunderstood or mistreated, our lives can point others to Jesus.
Submission to authority, even when it is difficult, is a mark of Christian maturity. We are called to honor everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, and respect those in leadership. All while patiently enduring suffering as it is precious to God seeing us trust in Him. Jesus Himself is our example. He suffered without retaliation, bore our sins, and became the Shepherd of our souls. Our goal is to become more like Him, knowing our suffering is never wasted and our ultimate reward is with Him.
